Anna Kate Mackle was born and raised in New York, where she attended the Manhattan School of Music and the Mannes School of Music repertory departments during junior high school and high school. At the age of 18, she moved to Cleveland to study with the world-renown harp teacher Alice Chalifoux. Anna Kate first studied under Chalifoux at Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, and then at the Cleveland Institute of Music where she received her bachelor's and master's degrees in music.
Anna Kate currently holds the position of principle harpist for the Wheeling, Youngstown and Mansfield Symphony Orchestras, as well as the Sarasota Opera Orchestra in Sarasota, Florida. In addition, Anna Kate also appears regularly with the Akron, Canton, Dayton, Erie, Fort Wayne and Windsor Symphony Orchestras. Anna Kate recently served as the principal harpist for the Spoleto Festival in Spoleto, Italy, the Ohio Light Opera Orchestra, the 1997 San Francisco Ballet tour, and the 1995 tour of the Broadway show "State Fair."
For several years, Anna Kate served on the faculty of the Interlochen Arts Camp and also taught at the preparatory department of Baldwin Wallace College. In addition to her frequent solo appearances and orchestral playing, Anna Kate also plays regularly at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Cleveland and is an active participant in Access to the Arts, a non-profit organization which provides live musical performances to hospitals and homes for the elderly.
